For those who feel stuck and want to seek out the self-knowledge needed to reduce anxiety and improve mental health.

I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist, fully insured and registered member of the BACP with eight years of experience offering therapy. My experience comes from working in a wide range of corporate, university and charity settings with people who hadifferent challenges to their well being and mental health.
I trained on the BACP-accredited Counselling and Psychotherapy Master’s course at University of Salford. Since qualifying, I have continued to deepen my practice through additional professional training, including Transactional Analysis training with Dr Mark Widdowson and specialist Domestic Abuse training with Dr Jeannette Roddy.
My Master’s research explored the impact of stigma surrounding drugs and alcohol on the therapeutic relationship, reflecting my ongoing interest in how shame, identity, and social experiences shape emotional wellbeing and connection.
Alongside private practice, my work with Peeps HIE has led me to develop a specialism in supporting families affected by birth trauma, children with complex medical needs, and disability. I understand the profound emotional impact that medical trauma, uncertainty, caregiving, and advocacy can have on individuals and families, and I aim to offer a grounded therapeutic space to explore the grief, exhaustion, isolation, anger as well as emerging hope, joy and acceptance.
I also have broad experience supporting people experiencing grief, anxiety, depression, loneliness, anger and a range of other challenges. My approach is relational, thoughtful, and tailored to each individual, recognising that every person’s experiences and needs are unique.

I offer appointments from my office based on the outskirts of Manchester city centre in the Angel Centre. There is a free car park and blue badge parking outside the building.
Video calls via Teams are an option for anyone outside of Manchester or prefer to have sessions within their own environment. A comfortable and private place to talk with a good connection is a great place to start.
Using phone calls can make therapy less daunting and easier to manage for some clients that feel uneasy talking about themselves on camera.
I have experience of offering in person and online group therapy and feel enthusiastic about building bespoke options for charities or anybody interested in this approach.
Please email emcdermott304@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
I offer trauma informed person-centred therapy. I am also trained in CBT (cognitive, behavioural therapy) and TA (transactional analysis) and ideas from these modalities inform my work as well as my interest in attachment theory and psychodynamic therapy.
My training is used to create a containing safe space for the conversation. I offer collaborative, client led neurodiversity affirming support and therapy.
1. Make an enquiry via text or email.
2. I will respond within 24 hours to offer an introductory call.
3. Introductory phone or online call to discuss what is bringing you to therapy and if I can help. You can check the connection and get a feel for how I work.
4. When you have made a decision book an appointment.
5. I will email confirmation of our appointment, enrolment document and share the therapeutic contract.
Once we have agreed the time I will call you. During the call we will talk about what is bringing you to therapy and why now. By the end of the call we will have a shared understanding of the challenges you are facing and if the therapy I offer is a good match. The practicalities of availability for appointments and how we meet is also discussed. After that you can make a decision in your own time.
The start of the first session involves a short assessment. After that we think together about what you would like to get from therapy - ideas on what could help you feel better and what you would like to change. We also discuss the number of sessions and agree a date for the next session and the one after that.
I offer a flexible approach to appointment planning. It is up to you how many appointments you have based on what works for your circumstances, availability and on how you feel along the way.
Most people notice a change between 6 and 10 session.
Some clients like weekly sessions to focus and work through what is bringing them to therapy. Others, prefer the rhythm of fortnightly appointments. It is also possible to be flexible to work around shift patterns and finances.
If you want to finish at any time let me know - your decision will be respected.
I understand that life gets in the way and sometimes it becomes tough/impossible to keep going with therapy. Where possible planned endings to close to a cycle of therapy can be helpful.
I offer two discounted places where sessions cost £55 for up to 10 sessions. If both places are taken there is a waiting list.
There is a free car park and also blue badge parking spaces outside the entrance. The Angel Centre is an accessible building with ramps, electric entrance doors, wheel chair accessible lift, corridors and bathrooms. My office is small but has been checked for wheel chair access. A guide into the building is available.
